Sexuality is an aspect of the human being which raises questions and captivation.
The will to understand the different components it is formed of, just as a unique object of curiosity and interest, has led to the creation of a specific scientific discipline : sexology.
The Sexocorporel which Jean-Yves Desjardins has developed and taught is to be found in the urge to understand and intellectualize human sexuality. It is a therapeutic sexology approach based on a model of sexual health inspired from the WHO standards and relying on scientific studies corroborated by clinical observations carried out during over 40 years.
The Sexocorporel proposes an all-comprehensive and rigorous sexoclinical evaluation which helps to establish an accurate diagnosis. It is thus possible to build an efficient treatment plan
This treatment aims at concretely and rapidly meeting the expectations of the women, the men and the couples who wish to reach a more satisfying sexual and personal life.
I’ll be pleased to help you !
Professor Jean-Yves Desjardins has been a psychologist and a clinic sexologist for over 40 years. He has dedicated his life to the study of human sexuality. His reflexion about this subject started when he was still a young theologian. After studying different subjects during several years he decided to focus his work on clinical sexology. According to Pr. Desjardins sexology was a science apart and that is why in the course of the years he made one of his dreams come true when co-founding with Claude Crépault what was to become the sexology department of Quebec University in Montreal (UQAM)www.er.uqam.ca/nobel/sexologie.
Pr. Desjardins has developed the Sexocorporel based on his researches and clinical observations. This pattern of sexual health was taught at the UQAM from 1968 to 1988 when Pr. Desjardins retired from the University. Afterwards he kept teaching in Quebec and in Europe in order to increase the circulation of the Sexocorporel.
In the course of the 80s and along with his clinical and universitary career Pr. Desjardins worked a lot developing different didactic and audiovisual tools (see the list hereafter). During over 4 years he daily led a radio broadcast on CKAC. He thus helped promote the sexology knowledge widely to the public. At the same time he also held hundreds of very successfull conferences called “ Vivre en amour “ (“ Living in love”) throughout Quebec. Thanks to these conferences, he was able to reach hundreds of thousand men and women who were looking for concrete tools to improve their sexual and love life.
The Sexocorporel has structured and precised all through the years thanks to the help of many contributors in Quebec and in France. We will particularly stress on what Dr François de Carufel and Dr Claude Roux-Deslandes have brought. They have worked many years to structure and schematize the different concepts of the Sexocorporel.

Theoretical foundations
- Fundamental unity :
What we call fundamental unity is the inseparable link body-brain / brain-body. Every perception, emotion and cognition (implicit body) finds its concomitant reflexion on the neurophysiological level (explicit body) and vice versa. That is what we call the mirror-body. As the great philosopher St-Thomas of Aquin put it at the end of the 15th century : nihil intellectu nisi prius in sensu Ÿ, which means : nothing aware is not first felt Ÿ.
- Pattern of sexual health :
The Sexocorporel is a model of sexual health taking into account all the components involved in human sexuality. Sexual health is defined as the birth, the development, the integration and the harmonization of the different components interacting within human sexuality.
Here are the different components of human sexuality:
1. Fundamental component :
Sexual identity linked to anatomy (male, female).
2. Physiological components :
Sexual excitation, modes of sexual excitation, sources of sexual excitation, evaluation of the different curves of the sexual answer.
3. Sexodynamic components :
Sense of belonging to one’s biological sex (male, female), sexual pleasure, sexual desire, erotic imagination, codes of sexual attraction, sexual assertivity.
4. Cognitive components :
Knowledge, ideologies, systems of thoughts, attitudes, codifications, value judgements and idealizations.
5. Relational components :
Love and erotic communication, feeling of love, seduction and erotic skills.
An innovative model
A lot of people consider the Sexocorporel as a global and scientific model of sexual health because the knowledge regarding sexuality is so accurate and detailed and that the treatment plans which are proposed are so efficient. This sexological model is innovative and aims at guiding men and women towards an erotic acting that would be satisfying on both personal and relational levels.
Here is the particular contribution of the Sexocorporel to clinical sexology :
Elaboration of precise definitions of the sexological terms lifting the veil on numerous mistakes in the sexological vocabulary.
Creation of an global evaluation grid including each of the components involved in human sexuality.
Proposition of a model of the child’s sexual development based on observations.
Observation based on clinical cases and classification of the different modes of sexual excitation :
- Archaic mode of sexual excitation
- Mechanical mode of sexual excitation
- Archaico-mechanical mode of sexual excitation
- Continuous mode of sexual excitation
- Undulatory mode of sexual excitation
- Wave mode of sexual excitation
Elaboration of simple and efficient treatments based on explicit reality, which guarantees that it is a global and scientific sexology.
Investigation of the qualitative aspect (emotional perception) of the sexual answer linked to the curve of the sexual excitation.
Concrete possibility to affect and adjust the curve of the sexual excitation based on the laws of the body. This voluntary power may affect :
Possibilité concrète d’influencer et de moduler la courbe de l’excitation sexuelle à partir des lois du corps. Ce pouvoir volontaire peut s’exercer sur :
- The rhythms (fluctuating between slow and rapid)
- The muscular intensity (fluctuating between hypotonic and hypertonic)
- The internal space via respiration and the external space via movements (fluctuating between wide and reduced).
